Sarah Uribe is a High School Junior who lives in San Diego, CA and spends most of her free time creating with Sharpies on different surfaces or relaxing at the beach. In her, not so free time, Sarah is a Varsity and Level 5 Allstar cheerleader and dedicated student—college is on her mind a lot these days, she’s taking many AP courses, including AP Art.
As a friend of the Wahl family, butterflies are swarming all about when she visits. One afternoon Tasha asked Sarah if she’d like to decorate one. One turned into more and to date Sarah has decorated six butterflies for Butterfly Effect, using paint and Sharpie markers. Gleaning inspiration from her favorite beaches, she likes to use colors that reflect San Diego beach life. “I like relaxing things that are colorful,” says Sarah “I’ve been using a lot of peace signs recently and I love working with Sharpies because they are very defined and bold.”
Being involved with the Butterfly Effect project has had a deep impact on Sarah. “I think it’s really cool how you can connect with someone that you’ve never met, even someone in a different country”. Being connected to a lot of different creative projects in and out of school as well as Butterfly Effect has also affected how Sarah is seeing her future options. Even though graduating and moving on to a more grown up life is at times scary, Sarah has decided that she definitely wants to make art a part of her future career. We can’t wait to see what Sarah will create next!
